The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted
I’m finally getting around to reading Gary Chapman’s newest book, The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted. My wife and I got free copies at a dinner event where he was the invited guest. Below is an excerpt that we were talking about last night. It led to such a great conversation that I thought to share it with you.
I would be unfair if I did not express clearly my deep thoughts that you will ever be able to demonstrate such a self-giving love without the aid of the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures say, ‘God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit’ (Romans 5:5). The ability to respond in love comes from God. I have the opportunity to be God’s agent of love to my wife. No one in all the universe is in better position to love my wife than I. I must not forfeit that opportunity. If I am willing to turn to God, admitting my lack of love, yes, even my bitterness and hatred, and accept His forgiveness and ask Him to love my wife through me, I can become a lover par excellence.
